7th Annual TieFest Set for Feb. 14

January 19, 2009

Fly-fishing enthusiasts looking for a break from the winter doldrums can attend the 7th annual TieFest, the area’s premier fly-fishing show, Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Kent Narrows Yacht Club from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland (CCA MD) Kent Narrows Chapter, the event is free of charge and will feature nationally recognized fly-tyers, a host of fishing guides, equipment manufacturers, and opportunities to improve fishing skills.

Lefty Kreh, Bob Popovics, Steve Silverio, and many other fly-tyers will demonstrate patterns and techniques throughout the day and respond to questions from participants. Kreh also will offer a casting seminar in the afternoon.

Sage, St. Croix, and Temple Fork will bring their complete line of rods for the attendees to cast.  Members of the Mid Atlantic Fly Anglers Association will offer casting clinics simultaneously so that the attendees can not only cast the latest and greatest rods but also get pointers on their technique, according to Tony Friedrich, TieFest organizer and president, Kent Narrows Chapter.

“Tiefest is a grassroots effort to enhance the sport of fly fishing,” Friedrich said.  “During the past few years, the event has grown to include thousands of individuals that enjoy teaching and learning different aspects of the sport.  This year will prove to be the biggest and best yet.”

All proceeds from raffle items will go towards purchasing oyster spat and floats for oyster restoration in the Chesapeake Bay.

Further information can be obtained from Friedrich, tieflies@gmail.com.
