Gwynn’s Island Reef 2.0 – Deployed!
Mother nature finally provided the weather window VMRC’s reef team and contractors were looking for last week, landing over 250 more reef pyramids at the site.
Invented by Capt. Monty Hawkins of the Ocean City Reef Foundation, and built and donated by Kinsley Construction. These 3′ wide and 18″ tall 160 lb. concrete structures provide a great place for oysters and other filtering organisms to attach, providing a nice boost to the ecosystem and fishing.
The VMRC website notes the previous deployment of pyramids, and this new deployment will be added soon.
