CCA Maryland sponsors the Kids’ Fishing Derby at this year’s 48th annual Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland.  More than 200 kids from all over the region came out to do some fishing at the Bay Street Ponds and winning fun prizes while and learning how to fish.

EASTON, MARYLAND (Saturday & Sunday, November 10-11, 2018)

Last weekend brought with it our first real taste of cold weather as we kicked off the derby on Saturday at the Bay Street Ponds in Easton, Maryland. “It was a great weekend with a great group of kids,” shares Maggie Hughes, Assistant Director CCA Maryland.  With a healthy attendance of more than 200 little anglers (and their enthusiastic guardians) it was clear that a little cold weather wasn’t going to deter this bunch.

Interested little fishers dropped lines (rods provided by CCA Maryland), caught fish and won prizes all weekend thanks to many local businesses who donated the prizes-- from pottery painting certificates, free bowling tickets and movie passes! 5 kids fishing rods were even donated by CCA Maryland to help our little anglers continue their interest in recreational fishing.

Thanks to the help of Maryland DNR the pond was stocked with rainbow trout hatchlings, but we were catching all kinds of fish! Shore Sportsman of Easton generously donated our bait that was pulling in bluegills, bass, sunfish as well as the rainbow trout.

This event was held by The Waterfowl Festival and organized by local volunteers including CCA Maryland’s Mid-Shore Chapter, The Waterfowl Festival and Local Elks Lodge #1622.
